VIDEO/STORY: Liberals taken to task on poverty, environment in day of protest

Friends of The Northumberland Strait's Nicole MacKenzie speaks to The Chronicle Herald at Rise Up Rally on the opening of the spring session of the legislature.

“Northern Pulp’s proposal to pump effluent onto prime fishing grounds in the Northumberland Strait is a threat to the future of the fisheries,” she said. “There’s been a commercial fishery going on in the Northumberland Strait for 150 years and there’s been a First Nations fishery — food fishery — going on for much longer than that."

“We want our children to be able to fish and this is just a threat to the future of all that. There’s just too much at risk.”
