Who We Are

Friends of the Northumberland Strait is a community group concerned about Northern Pulp’s proposed wastewater treatment facility and their plan to continuously discharge treated effluent directly into the Strait.

Our goal is to create a better future together by protecting the water, air, land and resources of our region, so that we can thrive for generations to come.

Ecojustice, Canada’s largest environmental law charity, has teamed up with Friends of the Northumberland Strait to build the case against Northern Pulp’s plan to pump millions of litres of treated pulp effluent into the Northumberland Strait daily. While Ecojustice's legal fees are 100% free, FONS will be responsible to raise money for costs, including scientific experts and other expenses related to preparing for the upcoming environmental assessment of Northern Pulp’s proposed treatment facility.
